We don't take many supplements in our household, preferring to get everything we need from our varied, largely unprocessed diet. The exceptions to this rule, are magnesium and CBD. We take both of these supplements because they are proven sleep-aids, and when you sleep better, you recover faster, think clearer, feel better, and make better food choices. It helps us put the 'sleep' in our SLEEP | EAT | MOVE | REPEAT! But not all supplements are equal - the quality varies enormously. We take a practitioner-only brand Magnesium (Metagenics), and TruthNaturals CBD because it’s organically farmed, 100% THC free, and UK compliant. The 'THC free' part is really important for me and my job. Both of these brands are on the expensive end of the scale, but most experts agree: if you’re taking cheap supplements, you’re probably wasting that money. We’d rather spend a little extra, but notice a big difference. JC has blogged about CBD for sleep, recovery and health, here. Sometimes we just take our CBD in gel-cap form, but other times, we like to add it to our food (you can’t heat it, so your CBD creations need to be raw!). Here are some bliss ball variations that we’re fond of. Floaty oaty bliss ballsThese bliss balls are coconutty and oaty, and you can't taste the CBD. Perfect with your mid-morning cuppa if you're dangerously close to stapling your colleague's tie to the desk ;-) You can dip half in chocolate, or leave them plain. INGREDIENTS: 250 desiccated coconut 1/2 cup of oats, whizzed-up 100g creamed coconut 1/2 tsp vanilla 3 tsp stevia 7 droppers of TruthNatural's CBD 1500mg 4 rows of 90% dark chocolate, melted (optional) METHOD: Whizz everything up. Roll the mix into balls and pop them in the fridge If you want to dip them in chocolate, put the balls in the freezer to chill right down for about 30 mins. Prepare a tray (one that will fit in your fridge) with baking paper. Melt your chocolate in the microwave, checking and stirring it every 30 seconds (don't burn it!). I used a chopstick to stab each bliss ball and twizzle half of it in the chocolate. Because the bliss balls are already chilled, the chocolate sets faster. Place the dipped balls on the baking tray and pop them in the fridge until set. Peanut butter protein recovery ballsTruthNaturals do an amazing water soluble curcumin + CBD blend called RECOVER. It is without a doubt our favourite product in their range and worth every cent.
The only problem with these little magical recovery balls, is that you will want more than one. You should consider how many 'pumps' you would be getting from each ball (double entendre!). We used 30 pumps of RECOVER and made 25 balls. Truth recommend 4 pumps per 'dose.' So, ours averaged out at 1.2 pumps per ball. You do the maths and figure out how many you want to have! INGREDIENTS: 1 1/2 cups of peanut butter 1/3 cup of chia seeds 1/4 cup of oats Two scoops of protein powder 1 cup ground almonds 2 tablespoons coconut oil melted 30 pumps of Truth RECOVER (adjust this to your needs) 4 rows of dark chocolate (for dipping) METHOD: Whizz everything up in the food processor except for the dipping chocolate Roll the mix into balls and pop them in the fridge If you want to dip them in chocolate, put the balls in the freezer to chill right down for about 30 mins.

So, if CBD doesn’t get you high and it doesn’t knock you out, why do you use it? 🤷🏽♂️

Hi Hugh, haha - some people that smoke or use marijuana to get high actually refer to CBD (at least the zero THC products), as “useless weed” because it doesn’t give them what they’re after (ie it doesn’t make them high). People take CBD for different reasons, but mostly to reduce anxiety and to help them sleep. Other people use it to manage very specific conditions like seizures and epilepsy. I think that as people become more familiar with CBD and confident using it, that there’ll be better understanding of just how useful it can be for a variety of conditions.

I just went to buy the Recover and holy smokes it’s expensive! Going to see if it goes on sale soon and then I’ll pick some up!
